Residence Lisière

Sainte-Julienne, QC
About
In Sainte-Julienne, the forest breathes. The wind carries the scent of damp earth, light fractures through the foliage, and silence is punctuated by the whisper of branches. It is within this calm, verdant atmosphere, so characteristic of the Lanaudière region, that Lisière Residence takes root. Here, nature is not a backdrop; it becomes the project’s primary material.

The founding gesture

Set at the edge of a wooded area spanning more than three acres, the house inscribes itself as a slender incision in the landscape, a delicate opening between shadow and light.

The concept stems from a sliding effect between two volumes, whose variable geometries generate inhabited interstices. These in-between spaces become places of transition, porous areas where the gaze, light, and air circulate freely.

The architecture anchors itself in the terrain while preserving its continuity. It does not seek to dominate, but to accompany the topography, allowing the land to breathe.

An inner experience

Inside, the spatial organization extends the dialogue with the forest.
The living spaces open generously onto the canopy; rooms interlock around subdued zones where light softens, filtered through leaves.

Transitions are experienced as breaths: an alcove, a step toward the terrace, an opening toward the undergrowth. The house becomes a familiar refuge, an intimate cocoon where the rhythm of day and season shapes the perception of space.

Materiality and light

Materiality is expressed through the honesty of elements: raw wood, patinated metal, natural stone.

Their juxtaposition creates a controlled tension between warmth and rigor.

Metal surfaces reflect the changing nuances of the sky, while wood, over time, absorbs the hues of the seasons.

Light slips through openings, diffracts across surfaces, and leaves on the floor a shifting mosaic of shadows and reflections.

The building becomes an instrument of light, a sensitive architecture, almost silent, humble and restrained, revealing the poetry of the place.

The Lisière Residence is both anchored and floating, rooted in its territory while leaving room for void and breath.
It embodies a desire to inhabit differently: in closeness to the living, in the simplicity of the gesture, in the precision of the relationship to the landscape.

An architecture that does not impose itself, but gently embraces time and light.
